Process Capture and Free Screen Recorder Posted Fri, 15 Jan 2010 01:44:00 +1000 by Chris

Need to record a process or capture your steps and don't have windows 7 yet? (If you do have Windows 7 look for the Problem Solving Recorder psr.exe).

Rather than just recording a video would you like to capture the process you have taken by screenshots and actions? Want to use that process to train others online, test software or replay?
Try Process Mentor from Visharad Software.

If you just need to record your desktop use don't Free Screen Recorder from NBX. Does exactly what it says.

NCH Software Posted Fri, 15 Jan 2010 01:28:00 +1000 by Chris

NCH Software www.nch.com.au

These guys rock. An Australian company with great free programs and a toolbox that works the way we all think.

The hitch – admittedly when you install any one program, even the toolbox, they install a start menu folder with shortcuts to all the others. I usually delete it. It also puts each program in the start menu in a folder named after the program not in one folder. Otherwise great program.

 TOOLBOX

You must get the toolbox. Ever asked how do I record my desktop? How do I stream video? How do I convert this video to the right format? This program has all the questions and the answer… it will automatically download a free NCH program which does exactly that! And there are plenty! Some programs you can pay to upgrade to pro versions but I am happy with the free ones.

All the following programs are in the toolbox and many many more…

DEBUT VIDEO CAPTURE SOFTWARE

Best program to capture from your desktop or webcam or connected camera. Great for recording training videos or demonstrations.  Works well with webcams as well, multiple formats to save in. My favourite!

VIDEOPAD VIDEO EDITOR

Another Movie editing tool. About as good as Windows Movie Maker.

PRISM VIDEO CONVERTOR

If you saved it in the wrong format this program will let you convert it. Great range of formats.

BROADCAM VIDEO STREAMING SERVER

Want to stream video either pre-recorded or live?  This program creates a server, streaming video as jpg video or as windows media to a web portal, gives you the IP and even recommends if you should reconfigure your router. You can then invite people to watch.

Feature Request: MediaCentre Posted Tue, 29 Dec 2009 13:11:00 +1000 by Chris

It would be great if the playlist export gave you the option to export with specific or relative paths.

I have all of my .mp3 files on both my desktop and my BlackBerry. I want to use a program to create playlists on my desktop and save the .m3u files to disk using relative paths...then I can copy them to my BlackBerry and play them...all should work w/ relative paths but will NOT with specific paths as my BlackBerry doesn't have a W: drive for instance. Ed

I will investigate the option of allowing saving relative vs absolute paths for playlist generation in the next version. The sequencing feature request would also assist with this as it will save all songs in a numerical order for playback.

RESOLVED: 8/2/10 v4.0.51 In the latest version not only can you export playlists with relative or absolute paths, but using the Export Media Window you can now copy your playlist to a device or folder and automatically generate a playlist file in your chosen format or sequence the files by number. Your settings are remembered so that you can easily create a playlist and export it ready to go.

You offer the (fantastic) ability to copy playlist files to a location.  I'd really like this to offer the option to add a sequence number to the beginning of the filename so the files would play in playlist order on my portable player.  Something like this:  "MySong.mp3" is the 1st track in the list so when it is copied the destination file becomes "0001] MySong.mp3" or "0001 - MySong.mp3" or "0001) MySong.mp3" or whatever. I think you get the idea.  Could you possibly find time to add this capability? Robert

I will investigate introducing a sequencing option in the next version to export files with a four digit number sequence at the front i.e. 0001_My Song.mp3 or similiar. This may be a checkbox in the export window. I will also investigate the option of having a remove sequence feature that will rename all the files in a folder stripping this sequence from them so that you can copy them back into your library or share them with others without the sequence number. Is this needed?

RESOLVED: 8/2/10 v4.0.51. The export media window now has the option to sequence the exported files (i.e. 0001-My Song.mp3) and to generate a playlist file with the music.

Feature Request: Print Queue Manager Posted Tue, 08 Dec 2009 10:02:00 +1000 by Chris

For your next release (version)of PQM can you please take a look why when the DEL key is pressed PQM closes and deletes all settings. Marcelo

Delete is the shortcut key for clearing settings. There does not need to be a shortcut for this menu option.

RESOLVED 6/2/10: Version 3.0.9 has no shortcut for clear settings. Instead delete will actually delete a job from the queue or shift delete will delete multiple jobs. A confirmation message will appear first.
